It isn’t, it really isn’t

Heaven knows, in these postmodern, cross-cultural times, the borders between plagiarism, tribute, pastiche and coincidence are so blurred that they might as well not be there. That said, it might have been nice if Selfridges had chosen to set up their Christmas window display while Frank Sidebottom was still around to enjoy it.

PS: Seems as if Selfridges has been nudged into doing the right thing.

London, eh? What will they get up to next?

There's a lot of Banksy-style Frank Sidebottom graffiti in the loos and side streets of Manchester these days, including this slightly eerie one opposite where I work:

She looks like Betty Boop too. I never saw Frank Sidebottom. I wish I had.

They’ve even stopped sweet rationing there, Dave. It’s wonderful.

That’s where Selfridges went wrong, Roland. They should have stencilled their display on pillar boxes the length of Oxford Street.

And Betty Boop in turn was a pastiche of an actress called (IIRC) Helen Kane, Rosie. It never ends...

I regularly worry that the thoughts I'm having have actually been thunked by someone else. Everyone's so bloody witty. I need a Joan Rivers style card file system so I know who to attribute bon mots to.
