Hopeless

For some reason, I've been thinking about thirtysomething. Well, rethinking two somethings that I thought about thirtysomething the first time around.

The first was how terribly edgy and contrarian the whole lower-case title thing was, and how only the bravest of designers would ever dream of copying it. And the other was how old all the characters were, and how I'd never get like that.

I never saw the show, but I remember vaguely thinking it was about middle-aged people. And here I am, 43, still thinking someone else must be all the middle-aged people.. surely I can't be.

I'm not yet thirtysomething, but I remember when it was on and I thought thirty was centuries away.

Well, Valerie, I suppose the people in thirtysomething are still however-many years older than you are. I just looked them up - Gary's 55, that can't be right... wonder if he still looks like Bjorn Borg...

Jesus, Billy, you must have been about 11 when it was on. Surprised you didn't get it mixed up with Last of the Summer Wine.

Gary! Haven't thought of him in ages. I admire the careers Olin and Bushfield have created as directors and producers. I also like Timothy as an actor, especially as CJ's true love on The West Wing. But then I'm a rank sentimentalist.
