Tear him for his bad verses

“Any reviewer who expresses rage and loathing for a novel is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.” (Kurt Vonnegut)
But surely that also applies to those who rage against the review? I know, somebody read this post back to me in a few months’ time...

PS: And look! A respectable reason for non-gynaecologists to read Playboy!

What???!!!????

Nabokov came 22nd in Playboy's list of the most important people in Sex????!!!???

Why so low??

(I'm guessing they must have given the members of Pan's People and Hot Gossip individual placings...??)

Don't you wish Mailer was still alive to give Allain de Botton's face the headbutting it so richly deserves?

The Consolations of Philosophy indeed.

Allain should lighten up. Maybe male pattern baldness is the underlying cause of his angst.

Bad reviews of anything are always very entertaining to read.

I've always been on Vidal's side in the big battle, Mort. Once, after Mailer had punched him over some perceived slight, GV just lay there and hissed "Words fail Norman Mailer - again." And as for Pan's People, Cherry at #1, surely?

Oh don't say that, Garfer? Wasn't that the excuse of the Lib Dem who got caught with the Polish rent boys?

But even more entertaining to write, Billy.

I get rude comments on my blog. I don't mind. Sometimes it's better than nothing and it frees me up to make witty ripostes.

...yeah, sorry about those Dickster. I don't know what (or who?) came over me...

Oh what I'd give for a rude comment on mine!*

Yes, I liked the story Alan Bennett tells of Gore's appearance on "Start the week". He was on with Conor Cruise O'Brien and (I think) Melvyn Bragg, who asked CCO'B what he thought of Vidal's new book.

"Meretricious" pronounced the Irishman - to which GV reponded "..and a happy new Year to you too Conor..."

And there I was thinking Dick and Mort (and Vicus and Spin and Molly Bloom and Wife In The North) were the same person. Ah well.

I'll admit to having been Spinsterella, Molly Bloom and Wife in the North Tim - but I have *never* been Dickster!

(And if I had, I *certainly* would have inhaled...)
