Tim: Thought provoking as ever. Wonderfully written. Easy to dance to. I give it an 88. (ignore the last unless you were a fan of American Bandstand)
It would appear that the 'good' governments can't win for losing. If they go in guns blazing, thats bad; if they speak with the rulers of the 'bad' governments, thats bad too. I suppose the only option left is to take our toys and go home (but what if the baddies have better toys or the toys WE want?)
I imagine it's all about the old school tie - personal friends of such sterling individuals as Prince Charles and Jonathan Aitken - gentlemen, I think they're known as ...
I was with Hitchens and Burchill in the beginning even though they were saying Saddam was a threat to the rest of the world. They were both very persuasive and have both got bloody big mouths. I don't know why I was impressed by the big mouths because I'm not usually.
Then again George Robertson has a small mouth and he was for the war, too.
All I ask is consistency, Rimshot. Although didn't Emerson disparage consistency? And I'll leave you and Billy to fight a duel.
God, Anthony, I think I preferred Aitken before he went down.
Talking of which, DH, FN, they've got another smokescreen now. Harry (who was my first choice on the coke and BJs tip) is now being questioned over the shooting of hen harriers at Sandringham. Which in my book is a worse offence than getting your bedpost polished by the daily, but what do I know?
George Robertson doesn't have a mouth, Geoff. When he needs to speak, he borrows a kitten's bottom.

It would be nice is some of the commenters actually read the article in question...
Unfair Billy, you know I can't read! I just come here for the pictures.
You're on safe ground with the evil Saddam who ate babies for breakfast Tim. Not so sure about the blackmailed royals.
but it was a helluva smokescreen, wasn't it? all that outrage and ideology! i got sucked in too. and I know better.
the tides has turned, folks. you want to know why certain saudis were welcomed to the slumber party? guess.
I didn't mean you Rimshot, I meant the people on the Guardian.
Ach! My rudimentary attempt at humor (or humour) rarely translates to the written word.
at least he didn't get told to burn in hell this time. that seems encouraging.

"Although didn't Emerson disparage consistency"
Never really worked out for Emerson, did it?
Still, he'd have to go some way to be worse than bloody Djemba-Djemba....
Bob
Yes I noticed the hen-harrier episode. Harry will probably get off with a caution...they are fellow predators after all.
