In case anybody's wondering about the origin of the title of this blog...
"The assignment was a piece called "Good Eating in Hakodate" for a women's magazine. A photographer and I were to visit a few restaurants. I'd write the story up, he'd supply the photos, for a total of five pages. Well, somebody's got to write these things. And the same can be said for collecting garbage and shoveling snow. It doesn't matter whether you like it or not - a job's a job. For three and a half years, I'd been making this kind of contribution to society. Shovelling snow. You know, cultural snow."

Shovelling snow is surely a noble profession, just as mine is, shovelling something else. Never forget the sacrifice of those dedicated technicians scooping out tonnes of fat and grease from the dark subterranean arteries of London. We must all be grateful for some meaning in our lives and the very significant contribution to society. Who else can sit up at posh dinner parties when asked about one's profession and say: "I have a shitty job, and I enjoy it"! Yet spare a moment in your hectic life to consider those less fortunate - the sick, the mentally confused, the legal profession, politicians, etc. Finally, never never forget the critical contribution made by members of http://www.pylons.org/ (By the way, that's your cue . . . )
