Thoughts about Jade and Natasha, at First Drafts.

Viz Magazine recently posed the following question:

"If Max Clifford is so good at P.R., how come everybody thinks he's a c*nt?"

(apologies for the twee self censorship there)

I wonder wether Clifford's involvement with Jade is more business than personal. I'm not saying he's totally devoid of having a heart, but to me he's always had a spiv-like air about him.
Damn shame about Natasha, why can't this happen to the Fritzls of the world?

Does everyone think that about Max Clifford? He seems to be quite an active campaigner on health and disability issues (his daughter has serious health issues I believe) and he's also relatively left wing. The work sphere he operates in is distasteful to many but if you take that as a given, is what he does within it any worse than any other of the celebrity PRs? He seems to make a point of taking on the unsympathetic which is a sense is almost heroic. And when has anyone said that there's something inherently wrong with screwing with the Murdoch press?

I think the black-edged OK 'jadedition' is disgusting and offensive. Am totally shocked at Natasha's sudden death - I hope the media leave everyone alone and stop dwelling on the imagined 'curse' of the Redgrave dynasty. They are a normal family who happen to act/work in tv that is all.

Goody annoyed me. Max Clifford annoys me. I never saw Richardson. I don't have an emotional attachment to any of them.

I'm with GSE re: Max Clifford actually, but I find the public obsession with Jade Goody's illness pretty creepy. I mean, I had to see my mother having chemo when I was young which was horrific, but it's pretty commonplace in every family. Why would you become obsessed with someone who you don't know about suffering from an illness that virtually everyone has to encounter in real life at some point?

I once saw an interview with Max Clifford in which his stated aim was to get the Tories because of the way their government had treated his daughter. Fair play to him for that. But it does rather sicken me that he's become the high priest of chav and while doing so, cheapened fame and celebrity. That he's made every z-lister realise there's money to be made from the mouth-breathing hordes whose sources of entertainment begin and end with Simon fucking Cowell surely marks him out as a Thatcherite of the highest order.

Interesting that comments here focus on Clifford - the first response at FD was outrage that I'd dared to mention Richardson and Goody in the same breath...
