Nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate

My new book, Welcome to the Machine is back from the printers. Not that I've seen a copy yet, of course; they're all in boxes somewhere in New Malden. Although this isn't my first book, it's the first one that feels entirely mine, and I know that for the first time I'll start taking reviews and sales figures personally, rather than regarding them as an amusing whim of the publishing business. This time, I suppose, it's personal. Please expect a higher than normal level of neurosis and soul-searching on Cultural Snow over the coming months, interwoven with the inevitable plugging.

And major respect to the lovely Dame Helen. Bet that weeping cyst on the gall-bladder of humanity L Brent Bozell is having a crisis of faith right now.

Ooh, congratulations! But if it's been printed already, do those of us who have it on pre-order still have to wait for April? What are they going to do with it in New Malden for all that length of time?

No, not L Brent again!!

I'm looking forward to this book, much more than I'd expect considering it's a book about Radiohead.

Phew!

Woo!

Me too. I have very strong opinions on the concept of The Album - less so on Radiohead.

Do you have any tenuous West Country connections, by the way?

hurray! where can we get our autographed copies then?

(PS - can't believe this is Scorsese's first Oscar - especially since he hasn't made a good film since Goodfellas. The Gangs of New York especially was a stinker.)

Huzzah, congratulations Tim. I shall be buying the book, no doubt.

Are you smoking cigars al week now then?

Oh, I hate making a typo on a blonk like yours. I once made a spelling mistake over at Patroclus' place and was red in the face for a week.

Patroclus: This is how long book distribution takes, it seems. Sorry. However, although the publication date is listed as April 8, I wouldn't be surprised if some slip out earlier.

Billy: Thanks, mate. Yes, I rather hope that non-Radiohead junkies will find something to muse about. There are some bits and pieces of a book idea I'd had a couple of years before, that seemed to fit in quite nicely with the whole OKC phenomenon. So it's really a book and a half..

Spin: Hardly tenuous. I was born there, and went to university there.

Annie: Unfortunately, geography means the autographs are hard to come by. But let's make a deal. When I'm next in London, anyone in possession of a (legitimately obtained) copy gets an autograph (including dedication of choice) and a drink. Same applies to anyone who comes out to BKK.

Annie R: Last time I smoked a cigar, I was vv poorly. And poobumwilly to the typos. They're a sign that your brain works faster than your fingers.

Fantastic - I msut hve teh fastste barin in teh wolrd.

PS - I'll swap an autograph for an extra drink if anyone's trading..

More good news for you.My nephew is having his naming ceremony this weekend (so apparently he's not been called Jove for the past year) and my sister liked what you said about his name so she included it into a bunch of info she sent to the celebrant officiating at the ceremony. The woman has duly included it in her blessing but for some bizarre reason of her own decided to credit you as Uncle Tim. So, welcome to the family...

Spin: And that's going to improve your typing.

Joel: Hi bro. I'm deeply touched. Does this mean I have to buy him ice cream sundaes, take him to the zoo, procure a hooker for his 16th birthday, etc?

Good news Tim. Will we see you appearing on more talking heads shows (100 best albums etc)?
Also have you mentioned the Radiohead namecheck in the West Wing, although I seem to remember it was a bit disparaging.

Congratulations (but not the Cliff version).

Ooh congrats!

Thanks for your kind thoughts, people. Although maybe wait until a few people have read the thing before congratulations are justified.

Doc, I lost touch with the West Wing a few years ago. Who said what?

(I do, of course, have a Murakami reference - he and TY form a mutual appreciation society.)

'However, although the publication date is listed as April 8, I wouldn't be surprised if some slip out earlier.'

And don't be surprised if some appear for 1p each on Amazon before they're even on the shelves!

Good luck with the book. I came here via BWBD forum and have linked. Assume that's ok?

Tim F said...

Debi, link away. I've lurked at yours and will doubtless say something crass and attention-seeking before long...

But isn't BWBD a big secret? Like the Illuminati?

Debi said...

Yikes! You're not the first person to say that. What have I done??? Am I going to be strung up by my sensitive bits under Blackfriars Bridge now?

Nive knowing you ... briefly!
