Well, I've done it. I've hacked back my blogroll by about half. There was a method of sorts. If a site hadn't been updated for a few months; or if I hadn't visited for the same length of time; or if the joke had gone stale; it was taken round the back and put out of its misery.
Highly unscientific, of course. Just as I was about to dump K-Punk for example, Charles Frith sent me this, which (despite slagging off Paul Morley) still reminds me why the site ended up on my roll in the first place:
All of UK culture tends to the condition of the clip show, in which talking heads – including, of course, Morley - are paid to say what dimwit posh producers have decided that the audience already thinks over footage of what everyone has already seen.
So if you're peeved at your removal, please contact me through the usual channels, and I'll probably make some banal excuse about a slip of the mouse, and you'll know I'm lying and I'll know you know I'm lying and I'll reinstate you and honour will be satisfied and everything's lovely again.
And sorry about all this self-referential meandering in recent weeks. The next post will be about old pop music, secretive Japanese writers, dead Frenchmen who look like Scottish comedians. Something like that.

Your post title made me laugh
*rushes off immediately to look at Tim's links in a paranoid fashion*
aww tim, now you've gone 'n hurt my feelings
Ah, K-Punk is wonderful but I thought that his site looked a bit silly on the blogroll of my stupid, trashy housewife blog. These days, my links are mostly to blogging "mates" but they multiply like rabbits unless you're ruthless, don't they?
Thank goodness you've found Wyndham again for us after his last "John Stonehouse" canoe accident.
*checks for self on blogroll*
*walks off, satisfied*
Thanks for the concern, Murph, but you canned me from your blogroll before that.
*winks*
Wyndham
Paul Morley is probably the most irritating man alive, apart from Bill Oddie.
I will happily axe him if I hear him blethering on about the pop sensibility of Girls Aloud again.
Phew, I made it through the Great Decimation. I was a bit anxious as I haven't blogged for a while - I'm just having a little rest.
Nice to see we made the cut...or....weren't cut...or...
No matter...
Looking forward to stone dead Gauls who resemble John Sessions...
Still hanging in there....that's a relief. Got any more posts like the one about Marcel Marceau and Becket in the French Resistance?
Growth follows the knife, as Jean Kinck said to Stanley Baxter.
Glad to have made it through the sieve, though.
Well, three of four reinstatements, a combination of guilt trips, second thoughts and bloody-mindedness. Could have been worse - I'd concocted a scenario whereby I underwent a complete shrivelling of moral fibre, and the roll ended up even longer.
Anyway, onwards and, if not upwards, at least sideways in the right direction.
Oh well, we're all dead in the long run.
To be honest, I don't really mind being chopped from the blogroll. People are way too precious about them, er not that you are Tim since you have explained it was a necessary cull. And therein lies the reason why I haven't updated my links list in 3 years - actually, the first and only time I've compiled one - keeping it in permanent stone gives me a good excuse not to get into the weird emotional politics of it all.
My last post was on 17th July Tim - it's the 24th July today...
(Some people will do anything to get people to comment on their blogs, won't they?)
Ah well Tim - just remember, all those laughs and podcasts and good times were free and created with love...
(...and then there was the £13.99 for your bloody Radiohead book...just glad I didn't fork out for the Blink 182 one as well...)
xxx
Bob
Sorry Bob, that was a genuine cock-up: in recent months, when I've gone to yr address, I get a '404' sign, so I thought you'd given up. Have you said something rude about the King of Thailand or the like?
