I have been contacted by a Mr Terry Oduro, the chief corporate officer of the auditing department at the Eco Bank Int'l Ltd. in Accra, Ghana, offering me a slice of the fortune of Dr George Brumley who - and this may startle you - died in a plane crash with his whole family. Mr Oduro, who sounds like a terribly nice chap, has identified me as "a reliable but obscure individual".
And there a potentially fruitful business relationship founders. "Obscure" I can take, but nobody calls me reliable and gets away with it.

When next you communicate with Mr. Odura, please tell him that he still owes me a great deal of money.
I'll ask my new contact, Mr Guadalupe Stokes, if he can shed any light ...
Brilliant post title!
What a coincidence, Mr. Footman. I happen to need someone myself to help me transfer 100 million US dollars to my Cambodian offshore account from the estate of my Nigerian great-great-uncle who died in that same crash. Now if you could just give me some information regarding your bank account...
Yours sincerely,
Robin Reliant
PS: You are definitely the most trustworthy person that I have never met.
I asked him about this, Rimshot, and he said that you were in fact Dr George Brumley's mother, who died in the plane crash.
No, Murph, Guadelupe Stokes is the one who'll make your PEN15 bigger.
Thank you, Patroclus. I've been sitting on it for 18 months, waiting for a relevant story to come along.
Something about the phrase 'Cambodian offshore account' sets the alarm bells ringing, Jun...
Terry?
June?
At least you weren't described as "obscene"
If only, Billy.
i don't know the exact details, but last year there were two Indonesian government officials (from some distant obscure province, of course) were arrested in NY for allegedly trying to cash checks they received from another notable from Ghana (can't remember the name).
I don't understand it, really, i think they really should be arrested for being stupid enough, but it was quite funny.
The only thing that could make that story better would be for the Indonesians and the Ghanaians being in NYC for the annual meeting of transparency International.
