Barberism

Thoughts on Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd:

1. Johnny Depp's singing voice suggests an intimate knowledge of David Bowie's pre-1970 oeuvre. I half expected to hear him break into 'The Laughing Gnome' at any moment.

2. In roughly the same territory, why is Depp's Cockernee accent more convincing than Helena Bonham-Carter's?

3. Is Timothy Spall our greatest living actor, or what?

but did you actually like the film?

Depp's a big fan of The Fast Show. Maybe he got the accent from eco-warrior Dave Angel.

I love Timothy Spall. I forgot to mention him in my blog. He was the best bit.

Our Johnny's Cockney voice has come along a bit since he did From Hell, though. That bit (in FH) where he says 'oi'll just stand 'ere loik a nob' is v. funny.

Yes the cockernee is putting me off somewhat - it's worse than Suede.

Really, Red, what's that got to do with the price of pies? You'll be asking for Q-style star ratings next. But yes, it was quite good.

Geoff: Moonlight shadow!

Annie R/Wyndham: Fight! Fight!

Patroclus: I wonder what his comedy Frenchman voice is like. And does the lovely Vanessa appreciate it? "Zut alors, Johnee, eez not funny your, 'ow you say, fallen madonna with ze big boobeez while I am trying to feed ze children zeir Golden Grrrahams!"

Ah, now Swyde were speaking nothing but fluent Haywards Heath, Billy. That's like Cockney, but with much tighter trousers.

Thank you, Mary. See, Wyndham, you're outvoted. Although I've never understood what's so great about a bee's knees. Unless you like pollen.

Timothy Spall was excellent in both Rock Star and The Last Samurai, but I lost respect for him when he took part in the Harry Potter rubbish (in my opinion)

Ah, but where would we all be without Anthony Newley?

Tim Spall never quite lived up to the brilliant early promise of Barry in Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

But Rimshot, Mr Spall would argue that by doing such piffle, he is giving himself the freedom to make interesting, non-commercial movies. In this he the British answer to George Clooney.

Indeed, Anthony, a forgotten genius. Gurney Slade and all.

Maybe 'brilliant' isn't the word you're after, Murph...

It's just taken me a *very* long time to figure out who that vaguely familiar tosser in the picture is.

And even longer again to work out what he's got to do with this post.

Not-blogging has clearly made me (even) stupid(er).

Well stop not-blogging then, you daft bint.
