Reviewing the situation

Many is the time that I've been sniffy about Q magazine over the years, dismissing it as tedious, boorish, obsessively inoffensive, up Bono's arse, the print embodiment of rolling up the sleeves of one's jacket, the sort of thing Ocean Colour Scene would do if they were journalists, the music mag for people who don't really like music. But maybe I'm mellowing in my old age, and starting to realise that it is, in fact, the premier popular music periodical on the planet. This has nothing to do, of course, with the fact that they've awarded Welcome to the Machine four stars in their current issue, describing it as "highly readable", "provocative" and "seductive". Crikey.

With that, and all the nice things various bloggers have already said about it (even to the extent of posting pictures of themselves reading it - no, really, they do, I thought there was a law against that sort of thing) I'm quite a happy little hack. I can even overlook the views of one 'qwerrie' who suggested on the ateaseweb Radiohead fan site that "Tim Footman's new book will definitely sucks (and his previous one -- Radiohead Documentary -- suxed, too)".

You fail to mention that Bono is very definitely up Bono's arse.

Hi, is it only available online? I've got clashing deadlines at the end of April and know if I order it online I won't be able to resist when I should be working.
I have to go into the big city at end April and would very much like to buy a copy while there to read on the 3 hour train journey home.
I know I could find this out for myself, but hey, I was here lurking...

I personally have always thought of you as 'highly readable', provocative and, dare I say, 'seductive'.

Well I've read the book and I can confirm that it didn't "suxed", whatever that means.

Very good point, Andrew. And I've now read your Pelevin link. "Books are only written in concrete circumstances." Also good point.

Misty, it should also be available in those strange, forbidding buildings that sell books and stuff.

And thank you, C & B. I'm seductive but I don't suxed. Oi'm a noice girl, oi am.

I think one can automatically discount the views of anyone who writes 'suxed'.

I must get Billy to take a photo of me looking at the King Crimson picture in your book :)

Doing a bit of dipping in your site, Tim, and to my disturbed, disappointed, distressed and dismayed surprise, I see that your White Album post garnered what in general amounted to abuse for The Beatles. Too cool to get great music? Shame. In the best tradition of r n' r, you should have suggested, and in the strongest possible language, that certain people of a viewpoint were labouring under the most toxic of delusions. Though how you could fail to include Long Long Long is another matter.

Tim, Amazon just sent me an e-mail apologizing for the delay with my order of Radiohead etc. that is now delayed to an estimated ship date of June 5, 2010. Okay, I'm kidding about the year, but not the month.

Did they run out of the first printing or something?

Have dispatched an urgent query to the publisher, Miss Peel. Will get back to you.

A belated hurrah - local news - ooh a playground, special rickshaws - beware, it'll be sounding like an attractive destination next.
