In a former life I worked with a charity dealing with some of the fall-out form the Pattaya sex scene. I went out to visit some of their projects first hand. It was grim.
"Beware: Unattractive people in the vicinity looking for sexual release. If offended by the sight of overweight, bald, aging people enjoying a few final fornications before they flip out forever, please holiday in Scandinavia. Or return to your country of origin now and don't come back until you too become old, overweight, full of self-loathing and desperation, as inevitably you will."
That should keep out those predatory youngsters from Europe, who outnumber my type (self-loathing, but having fun with it) about 3 to 1 I'd say, and stop them interfering with my last few opportunities for some pleasantly assisted ejaculations, in the great colonial (and post-colonial) tradition.
Boz: The stuff on the surface is pretty unsavoury; the underside doesn’t bear thinking about.
e@l: Perhaps it’s my fault, that I didn’t make the point plain enough. The final fornicators are no problem, provided they stay safe, pay generously and don’t get involved in the vileness to which Boz refers. I’m talking about the bitter, disappointed farang who try to create an ideal, Eisenhower-era domestic set-up, with a wife who cooks and cleans and irons and won’t threaten him with her intellect or aspirations.
There are plenty of women in the UK who would be happy with a more traditional domestic lifestyle.
The problem is not that all women have been twisted into cackling misandrists who think feminism means limitless entitlement. It's simply that these guys have have obviously struggled to meet the right person at home, made the decision to go somewhere their comparative wealth will make them a more attractive prospect, and need to find a way to rationalise that decision to themselves.
The social stigma attached to a man who's failed to find a suitable partner by the time he reaches a certain age can be difficult for men with an old-school mindset to cope with. So the female population which rejected him provides a useful scapegoat.
Classic Reaction-Formation innit; growing to hate the thing you want the most but have been denied.
Much better written than many similar articles I've seen for sure. Only thing that occurs to me Tim is how long it took you to get round to writing it.

Yes, there should be a sign in Pattaya:

Maybe I missed the point there, but it was fun writing it!

Yes self-delusion trumps self-loathing every time.
