US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has warned that the US will take action against any country seeking to destabilise Iraq.

And who said Americans can't do irony?

Reading the linked piece, basically the American government is saying that there's one rule for them and another for the rest of the world. And they don't understand why much of the world views them as *the* major threat to world peace, etc.? How arrogant and scary are they! :<

There is actually a fairly respectable strand of political philiosophy called American Exceptionalism that proposes just that. It's similarity to the idea that anything you do in the name of Islam is OK, cos it's like, Islam, yeah, would be amusing if it weren't so depressing.

I had to explain to a girl at work why I'm more worried about the US government than the threat of terrorism on the streets here at home. And I didn't even have to mention US environmental policy.

The US has an environmental policy?

And I just need to slip in the necessary disclaimer that nobody around these parts is possessed by knee-jerk anti-Americanism, and there are so many American things we love (Aretha, the Coen Brothers, Hemingway, yellow cabs, JFK conspiracies, Deadwood, Reese's peanut butter cups, etc, etc, etc, and thank you for taking Posh Spice off our hands too) but:

1) Your current president is clearly too stupid to shit in a straight line, even with the assistance of gravity;

2) That thing you call football. It's silly, and it's not football.
