Jaded

Right, I said to myself, I will not get involved in the latest Big Brother controversy, I don't want to give them any more publicity, it's demeaning, it's banal, it's a waste of time, it's...

Ah, bollocks.

It's more to do with ratings than racism I'd say.

For you, I will read it, though the whole thing makes me very tired - have been trying to avoid it, which is virtually impossible over here.

Excellent post title Tim! You clever...

I think I'd rather deal with people who don't bother with 'I'm not a racist, but...' - that prefix is guaranteed to set me off.

Wow.

Well put, Tim.

Thanks, but I still feel a little unclean for taking the Endemol shilling, albeit indirectly.

"Endemol" does sound a bit like a brand of Laxative.
Peter Bazalgette of Endemol was the Great Grandson of the great Victorian Engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette who created much of the London sewer system.
I'm sure I'm not the first to suggest that the present generation has reversed the flow.

Murph: indeed you are not. On last night's News Quiz Sandy Toksvig made reference to the same fact, adding that it was nice to see that Peter was continuing the family tradition of providing a conduit for shit.

yes, its very nice, tim; but it still does not excuse the title of your last post.

What can I say, FN? Once a sub-editor, always a sub-editor. (If I might be permitted to namedrop, I once had a fleeting encounter with Lea deLaria, comedian, jazz singer and self-defined big bulldyke. "I'm a sub-editor," I said, because that's what I was doing then. "Cool," she replied. "A magazine about sandwiches." Well, I laughed.)

And, vile as Jade Goody is, Peter Bazalgette is infinitely more reprehensible. Proof, if ever it were needed, that clever people aren't necessarily good people.

I just saw that Jade is donating her fee to charity. I might have got this wrong, but when the Celeb version of BB kicked off, didn't all the housemates waive their fees, and competed for charity anyway?

I think she changed her nominated charity too. Presumably on the advice of her publicist.

What was the previous charity? The Benevolent Society for Distressed Klansmen?
