Something else Mani said to me

(Remember that I hadn't seen him for about 20 years.)

"I would have thought you'd have written The Great Novel by now."

There's a kick up the arse if ever I heard one.

  1. Are you going to write a novel then?

    Hurrah! Fiction. It's my favourite.

  2. Just say it's nearly finished. You've got another 20 years then before he checks on your progress. That's my current rate towards the same goal. Actually, I mean, towards a finished manuscript.

  3. I've had various novels and similar things "nearly finished" for the last 15 years or something. I always have a crisis of confidence about 9/10 of the way through.

Meanwhile, Mani's going back to do post-production on his third movie. I'm getting left behind.

  4. I just use my label maker and change the names of novels I like to show myself as the author. I've 'written' about seven or eight by now.
