The dying of the light programme

So farewell then, Alan Coren. Following on the heels of Ned Sherrin and George Melly. It's been a rotten few months for funny old men.

  1. And, of course, Ronnie Hazelhurst, whose legacy may prove more endearing than all of them.

  2. I meant, of course, 'enduring.' But endearing works just as well in this context, I think.

  3. You still have me. OK the 'funny' part is debatable.

  4. Ah, yes, dear old Ronnie, Wyndham. And I think 'endearing' is the better choice.

Indeed, MJ. The Ringo of the Rat Pack.

Yes, we still have Mr Headley. But I'm worried for him, and Humph, and Sykes, and Clement Freud... It's the School of Ustinov, the sort of people you could just drop into a chat show, with nothing to plug and no real reason to be there, give 'em a large gin and they'd be off...

  5. I'm sad about Coren. I always thought he and Sandi Toksvig combined very well. Haven't read a eulogy from her yet. I want to.

  6. I'll miss his "Come with me if you will, to the 18th century..."type banter.

BiB, I imagine there'll be a slew of tributes on R4 in the next couple of days - there was when Linda Smith died

  7. Very perceptive Tim. That's me all right...low attention span. A quip here, a dash of sarcasm there and I'm off. I blame TV.
