The music of the spheres

'Genius' is a debased word, but Oliver Postgate had it to spare. I salute his memory with a raised glass of green soup.

    Aside from the eccentric genius of his creations, Oliver Postgate had a wonderful voice that made me feel as if I was being tucked-up in a warm, cosy bed.

    Not particularly a fan of Bagpuss, but for The Clangers alone, Postgate deserves respect.

    He was 83, Betty. But it's like Humph - we thought he'd go on forever.

    I think my resemblance to Professor Yaffle was first pointed out when I was about eight, Garfer. It's a badge I wear proudly.
